Have you heard of PrEP? Prophylaxis Pre-exposure to HIV consists of taking a pill composed of two antiretrovirals that help prevent infection by the AIDS virus. To clarify this and other doubts about adherence to treatment, PrEPara Salvador created a video to publicize the services offered by the project in the Bahian capital.

The headquarters is located at Casarão da Diversidade, located in Pelourinho, the city’s historic center. The space is aimed at gay teenagers, men who have sex with men, trans women and transvestites, between 15 and 19 years old. Through the project, teenagers have access to a multidisciplinary program for the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), with emphasis on the distribution of PrEP, a medication that prevents infection by the HIV virus by up to 98%.

The study also takes place in the cities of São Paulo and Belo Horizonte, with funding from the agency Unitaid, an international organization that invests in innovations to prevent, diagnose and treat HIV / AIDS. In Salvador, the project is coordinated by the Institute of Collective Health (ISC / UFBA), Institute of Humanities, Arts and Sciences Professor Milton Santos (IHAC / UFBA) and the State University of Bahia (Uneb).
