On January 21, Professor Luís Eugênio (ISC / UFBA) discussed the political and economic challenges of health in Brazil at the second weekly seminar of 2020 at the School of Public Health and Politics of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) . With the title “The fight for health as a universal right in Brazil”, the professor’s presentation addressed the advances of SUS since its creation in 1988, but also the limits and setbacks currently threatened.
After the presentation, the discussion revolved around issues related to health financing, democracy in Brazil and the role of academia in defending the right to health.
Luís Eugênio Portela Fernandes de Souza has been a professor at ISC / UFBA since 2004, where he coordinates the Health Economics, Technology and Innovation Program (PECS). Since October 2019, he has been in London, as a visiting professor for the Capes / UFBA Internationalization Program, acting as an honorary researcher fellow in the Department of Research in Health Policy and Services at LSHTM.
