The Federal University of Bahia carefully monitors the official information about the evolution of the spread of the new coronavirus (Covid-19) and informs that teaching, research, extension and student assistance activities are normally maintained at this University, since 1 ) although there is confirmation of a case of the disease in São Paulo, there is no focus or indicative of transmission of the virus in Brazilian territory; and 2) there is no confirmation of a patient infected with the virus in Bahia.

UFBA is based on official information and recommendations released by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO / WHO, linked to the World Health Organization), the Ministry of Health (MS) and the State of Bahia Health Secretariat (Sesab) . A working group coordinated by the Central Administration was formed to monitor coronavirus evolution on a daily basis and, in the event of a worsening of the current scenario, new guidelines may be released.

However, it is recommended to members of the university community and to visitors who have recently arrived in one of the countries with a record of transmission of the new coronavirus (check   the updated list here ), and who are experiencing fever and one more flu-like symptom, such as coughing or shortness of breath, or having had direct contact with people with these symptoms in those countries, who seek public health services for notification and obtaining adequate medical advice and assistance.

Also as a precaution, it is recommended to the whole community a higher frequency of hand hygiene, with water and soap or alcohol gel – the simplest and most effective preventive action – in order to minimize the conditions of transmission of flu caused by any types viruses, thus reducing the chances of eventual spread of Covid-19.
